Monaco Grand Prix Dress Code: What to wear to the F1 (2025)

If you’re visiting Monaco for the Formula 1 weekend then you can expect to see lots of glitzy, glamorous fashionable people everywhere you go. But if you’re there for the F1 more than the glamour then don’t worry.

Officially there is no Monaco Grand Prix dress codefor grandstand or general admission ticket holders. If you have either of those types of tickets then you’re free to wear whatever you like.

If you have a hospitality, Paddock Club or VIP ticket however you will have to follow a smart casual dress code. More info and examples of what that looks like lower down.

One thing to bear in mind is that a lot of cafes, cocktail bars and restaurants around Monte Carlo will cater to a high-end customer. If you plan on exploring some of those during the weekend then you might feel more at home wearing smart casual attire in those places.

As there’s no dress code for those of you with grandstand or General Admission tickets, then you can wear whatever you like to the F1. But you should try and consider dressing to remain comfortable in the weather.

The race takes place in May, and being located in the South of France it’s likely to be warm. At last year’sMonaco Grand Prix the maximum temperature was 21°C / 70°F. If you’re also sat in direct sunlight then that will feel hot. So you should dress accordingly and bring sun protection.

If you travel to Monaco for the F1 and are staying in accommodation in the city, it’s likely you won’t be that far from the circuit. So you can always head back to your hotel after the F1 to get changed for the evening.

The weather at this time of year can also be a little unpredictable in Monaco, so it could rain. You should keep an eye on the forecast in the week leading up to the race and come prepared. Here’s my tips on what to wear to the Monaco Grand Prix:

• Wear shorts and t-shirts for the day time, but trousers might be better if you’re plan on being there in to the evening when it’s cooler
• Bring lightweight layers to put on later in the day to keep warm – a light sweater that’s easy to put in your bag is ideal
• Bring a hat to keep the sun off your head, especially if you’re in an uncovered grandstand
• Wear sunglasses
• Apply sunscreen
• Pack a cheap poncho if it looks like rain – you can buy these from local supermarches / shops. Get a long one so you can sit on it too.

If you’ve got La Rocher General Admission tickets then you’ll be likely to do a lot of walking. As you will if you plan on doing a bit of a tour around the city in between the F1 sessions.

With that in mind, wear some comfortable shoes. Then you can go back to your hotel and change in to some fancier footwear for the evening.

If you’re going for one of the many VIP experiences at the Monaco Grand Prix and have hospitality tickets for the Paddock Club, access to a multi-million dollar yacht party in the harbour that overlooks the circuit or any other VIP events then you’ll want to follow a smart casual dress code.

There’s no limit on how smart or glamorous you can dress. Fashion and style is a big thing in Monaco. Walking around the city can feel like a window in to another world. You’ll see women in Italian designer dresses worth thousands of Euros to men in plain white designer t-shirts that cost hundreds of Euros, and everything in between.

Smart trainers are acceptable as long as they’re clean. If you’re on a yacht you won’t be wearing shoes but everywhere else, as long as you’re not wearing flip-flops or filthy old trainers, then most footwear goes.
